Daran, the focus of the story becomes orphaned when his famous warrior parents are imprisoned. Daran travels alone to the capital city of Rios where he grows up on in the streets. He becomes widely known from doing many odd jobs. He discovers a labyrinth of caves under the cliffs beneath the castle. Findan, a bone carver and his apprentice, Gilmer befriend Daran. Gilmer, out of boredom, decides he wants and adventure. His poorly planned scheme to rescue the royal princesses is a disaster. An unwilling Daran, guided by the magic of two mysterious stones, finishes the rescue. With the help of many townsfolk, Daran escapes Rios only to land in more trouble from the princesses.
