Dream-slipping and Dream-slip Bands

To "dream-slip" is to travel in a dream.  A dream-slip band is a wrist band that helps you dream-slip or makes different things happen when you dream. Be sure to recite the spell  to activate your wristband.
Inside each of us is a hidden place in our minds where a tiny bit of magic waits. When we are young, the magic helps us whenever we play make-believe. It introduces us to imaginary friends.  It sits with us at a tea party and plays music that servants dance to or surrounds us with a castle and lets us see horses charging across a field.  So sad it seems, that as we grow older this bit of magic starts to hide, but it never goes away.  It loves to come out at night and help us with our dreams.
In the world of Gabendoor, dream-slip bands help bring that magic alive.  With a dream-slip band, that magic takes you to fantastic places like far away lands in in other dimensions or other galaxies. It takes you to on fantastic adventures while you sleep.
There are many types of dream-slip bands. A simple circular band takes you to a magical world when you fall asleep on earth.  When you fall asleep in the magical world, the dream-slip band brings you back home to the exact spot where you began your dream.  It takes you there and brings you back.
Here are some examples of different Dream-Slip Bands and how they work. I bet you could think up another version.  Sometime in the future we might have a spot on this website where you can submit the bands you invent.  For now, here are some of mine.

The flow of magic is the key to all dream-slipping.  In the simple round dream-slip band the magic goes round and round in a circle. It takes you there and takes you back, takes you there and takes you back.
When you fall asleep on earth, you wake up at your destination in another world or dimension.
When you fall asleep there, you return to the exact spot where you fell asleep on earth to start your travel.
If you dream-slip back to the other world, you arrive at the exact place where you had fallen asleep there for your return dream-slip home.
For example, you fall asleep in your bed and dream-slip to a castle. You walk to the highest tower and fall asleep. You will wake up in bed. The next night you fall asleep on the couch in your living room. You will wake up in the castle tower. From there you walk out to the garden. You fall asleep. You wake up on the couch in your living room. You play all day and go to bed in your room. Dream-slip and wake up in the castle garden.

BROKEN SIMPLE ROUND

In the simple round dream-slip band the magic goes round and round in a circle. It takes you there and takes you back, takes you there and takes you back.
But if you break it!  In a round band, the magic flows round and round and round. In a broken band, the magic flows around and spills out the broken end. Some of it jumps across the gap and gets back in the other broken end of the band. Soon, all the magic is floating all over the outside of the band. In Gabendoor and with a Gabendoor dream-slip band, all stray or wild magic goes to Abba-dread. Abba-dread is Aghasta's land inside the time mist.  If you break your band, you may dream-slip there.  The second book in the series, The Book of Broken Promises, is all about the time mist.

Square Knot

In the simple round dream-slip band the magic goes round and round in a circle. It takes you there and takes you back, takes you there and takes you back.
Sometimes a band can break or you might break it on purpose or even make it from some type of string or thong. If you tie the ends together, the band will work. The magic won't spill out.
How you tie the knot will make a difference. Study the knot picture closely. See that the two ends are on the opposite side the knot.  This is how a granny knot looks. Some people mistake it for a square knot, but it's not that kind of knot, not a square knot, not at all. (Just having fun with "knot" and "not.")
The magic flows around until it twists and turns through the knot. This slows it down and keeps you from ending up exactly in the same place on your dream-slip. The magic might speed up or slow down through the knot, but there's one small problem.  With a square knot, the ends are on the same side and the magic keeps flowing around for the most part.
With a granny knot, the little bit of magic that spills out one end of the strand never can find the other end to get back in. You can dream-slip with a granny knot band, but it becomes less and less accurate the more you use it. Finally, and all of a sudden, you'll end up in Abba-dread in the Time-Mist.

Double Strand Overhand

Wow, now here is a more complicated knot.  If you follow the strand, it's one long piece.  This dream-slip band will take you twice as far, to places that are hard to reach with a simple band. They are for travelers with great and wonderful imaginations only!  Use and dream at your own risk. You might even dream your way into a science fiction adventure with one like this.
But be careful!  If the knot isn't neatly tied, the magic can get all confused. You could end up at a random place each time you dream-slip. Each time it could be a different world or dimension. Maybe you'd have a series of short adventures in lots of places.
Whenever you order a Gabendoor book from me, I include an official silicone dream-slip wrist band along with a ddream-slip spell card.  Want one without the book? Email me and maybe...?
